전북대학교는 13일 오후 3시 남원글로컬캠퍼스에서 ‘전북대학교 남원글로컬캠퍼스 조성 출범식’을 개최하고 캠퍼스 조성사업의 본격적인 실행을 대내외에 공식 선언했다.

이번 출범식은 남원 글로컬캠퍼스 조성사업이 행정절차 단계를 넘어 실질적인 운영 단계로 전환됐음을 알리는 자리로 마련됐다. 특히 국가와 지자체, 대학이 협력해 국·공유재산을 재생한 전국 최초의 상생형 지역재생 혁신모델이라는 점에서 의미를 더했다.

남원 글로컬캠퍼스는 폐교 부지를 교육·정주·창업이 융합된 공간으로 재생해 지역경제 활성화와 글로벌 인재 양성의 거점으로 구축하는 사업이다. 외국인 유학생 전용 캠퍼스로 조성돼 지역소멸 위기 대응과 글로벌 교육 수요 확대를 동시에 실현하는 새로운 대학 모델로 주목받고 있다.

전북대는 글로컬대학사업을 기반으로 남원 글로컬캠퍼스에 글로컬커머스학과, 한국어학과, K-엔터테인먼트학과 등 3개 학과를 신설하고, 올해부터 250명 규모의 외국인 유학생 중심의 특화 교육과정을 운영에 나선다.

이날 출범식은 남원 글로컬캠퍼스 현장에서 식전공연으로 남원시립농악단의 지신밟기가 펼쳐진 데 이어 기념식, 현판 제막식, 시설 라운딩 순으로 진행됐다. 양오봉 총장과 주요 보직자를 비롯해 중앙부처 관계자, 전북특별자치도 및 남원시 주요 인사, 도내 대학 총장 등 70여 명이 참석했다.

특히 정문 현판 교체와 캠퍼스 상징 조형물 설치를 통해 남원 글로컬캠퍼스의 새로운 출발을 상징적으로 선포했다.

양오봉 총장은 기념사에서 “글로컬캠퍼스는 단순한 캠퍼스 확장이 아닌 지역과 대학이 함께 미래를 설계하는 전략적 거점”이라며 “교육 혁신을 넘어 지역 재생의 새로운 모델로, 지역과 대학이 함께 성장하는 지속가능한 상생 플랫폼으로 발전시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

전북대는 남원 글로컬캠퍼스를 통해 글로벌 인재를 유치하고, 지역 산업 및 문화자원과 연계한 특화 교육을 추진해 남원을 국제적 교육도시로 도약시키겠다는 비전을 제시했다.

남원 글로컬캠퍼스 조성에 따라 향후 남원 지역에 대규모 외국인 유학생 유입이 예상된다. 이는 지역 상권 활성화와 인구 유입 효과로 이어질 전망이다. 전북대는 남원시와 협력해 외국인 정주 지원체계를 구축하고 생활·문화·산업 연계 프로그램을 단계적으로 확대해 나갈 방침이다.



Jeonbuk National University Begins Full-Scale Implementation of Namwon Glocal Campus Project


Jeonbuk National University held the launch ceremony for the Namwon Glocal Campus at 3 p.m. on the 13th at Namwon Glocal Campus, officially declaring the full-scale implementation of the campus development project.

The ceremony marked the transition of the Namwon Glocal Campus project beyond administrative procedures into practical operation. It was particularly significant as the nation’s first collaborative regional regeneration model in which the central government, local government, and a university joined forces to revitalize state- and publicly owned properties.

The Namwon Glocal Campus project aims to transform a former school site into a multifunctional space integrating education, residential facilities, and entrepreneurship, serving as a hub for regional economic revitalization and global talent development. Designed exclusively for international students, the campus is drawing attention as a new university model that simultaneously addresses regional depopulation and expanding global demand for higher education.

Based on its Glocal University initiative, Jeonbuk National University has introduced three new departments at the Namwon Glocal Campus — Glocal Commerce, Korean Language, and K-Entertainment — and has begun operating specialized curricula designed for 250 international students this year.

The ceremony opened with jisinbapgi, a traditional ground-blessing ritual performed by the Namwon Municipal Nongak Troupe, followed by a commemorative ceremony, plaque unveiling, and facility tour. Around 70 people attended, including Yang Oh-bong, president of Jeonbuk National University, senior university officials, representatives from central government ministries, key officials from Jeonbuk State and Namwon, and presidents of universities across the province.

In particular, the replacement of the main gate signboard and the installation of a symbolic campus sculpture marked the campus’s new beginning.

In his commemorative address, Yang Oh-bong said, “Namwon Glocal Campus is not merely a campus expansion, but a strategic hub where the region and the university work together to shape the future. Beyond educational innovation, we will develop it into a new model for regional revitalization and a sustainable platform where the region and the university grow together.”

Jeonbuk National University also presented its vision of transforming Namwon into an international education city by attracting global talent and promoting specialized education linked to regional industries and cultural resources through Namwon Glocal Campus.

The development of Namwon Glocal Campus is expected to bring a large influx of international students to the Namwon area, contributing to revitalizing local businesses and increasing population inflow. Jeonbuk National University plans to work with Namwon to establish a support system for international residents and gradually expand programs integrating daily life, culture, and industry.
